5 Actions That Bring You Success

5-waysWho doesn’t want more success? Whatever you’ve already accomplished, there’s always another interesting mountain to climb. If you’re looking for more achievement, you can improve your life dramatically with a few simple changes.

Although these suggestions are straightforward, most of them will require constant attention for a little while until they become habitual. Once they become automatic, though, you’ll be thrilled with your progress.

Try these ideas to enjoy greater success:

  1. Hang out with successful individuals. You’ll frequently find that you achieve about as much as the people with whom you spend the most time. If you want to be successful, affiliate as often as you can with people who are more successful than you. There are a couple of reasons for this:
  • You’ll be exposed to a completely different way of thinking and interacting with the world. Very successful people look at many things differently than those who are less successful. Integrating some of these ideas into your own thinking will likely bring you more successes of your own.
  • You’ll also encounter new opportunities. High-achieving people frequently have all kinds of ventures going on; you never know when they might need a helping hand. You’ll also get to connect with their peer group, who are likely to be very successful as well.
  1. Adjust your attitude. Successful people usually have a positive attitude. That’s what allows them to move forward aggressively. This is not the same as acting foolishly, however.
  • Minor challenges don’t bog them down because they believe that things will work out in the end. They also keep the bigger picture in mind, so minor challenges are just that – minor.
  • If you want to be wealthy, do you have positive attitudes about wealth and wealthy people? If you want to be healthy, do you have a positive outlook about that? Your attitudes must be congruent with your objectives.
  • Everything starts internally; seeing outside changes in your life takes time.
  1. Be organized and focused. Before you go to bed each night, make a list with all the things you want to accomplish the next day. Doing this at night gives your brain a chance to work on things in your sleep. Also, you’ll feel much better when you can start the day with a clear objective instead of spending time trying to figure out what to do.
  2. Have goals. Your brain is tremendously good at finding solutions. You can help it out by doing a good job of outlining and prioritizing your objectives. The simplest way to do this is to write down your goal and include a deadline. Now your brain knows what to work on and when to have it accomplished.
  3. Read over your goals at least twice a day to provide mental emphasis that they’re important. We all know how easy it is to get sidetracked by 50 other things and forget all about our goals and plans.

These 5 simple ideas can bring you great power, if you’ll use them to your advantage.

Being successful is really no more challenging than being unsuccessful. Both require specific actions and attitudes applied consistently over a period of time. Make some changes today and give yourself the gift of success.

Why Diets Really Don’t Work and a Simple Plan that Does

healthy-habitsMillions of people around the world struggle with dieting. In fact, it’s estimated that more than a third of the population is on a diet at any given time. Unfortunately, the majority of diets fail. Dieters either never reach their goals or they gain the weight back once they’re off the diet. The truth is, most diets just don’t really work, on their own that is.

Why Diet’s Don’t Work
Diets don’t generally work because they focus on restriction and elimination. Instead of helping a person develop healthy eating habits, diets require people to virtually eliminate many foods. That’s not natural and once a person is off the diet, they go right back to their old eating habits.

Imagine being on a diet that eliminated starchy carbohydrates. Many diets do. That means no bread, potatoes or corn. Most people, once they’re off the diet, go right back to eating those starchy carbs. The result is that they regain the weight they lost.

So What Does Work to Lose Weight?
You might be surprised to find out that to lose weight you simply have to change your habits. You replace each bad habit with a good habit. The result, over time, is lasting weight loss. Here are some examples of bad eating habits and their potential replacements:

* Bad habit – drinking soda during the day
* Good replacement habit – drinking water

* Bad habit – snacking on sugary foods
* Good replacement habit – snacking on healthy foods like fruit, vegetables, nuts and whole grains

* Bad habit – eating fast food for lunch
* Good habit – packing a healthy lunch

Why Are You Here?

It is my firm belief that we are all here for a reason. Now when I say the word “all”, though I also mean that we as a collective of human beings, as humanity, are here for a reason, my specific point here is that each individual, you, me, and every individual that we know is here for a reason. Each one of us is here on a mission. And before we look into how to find our own specific purpose, it’s important to realize that just as I and you are here on a specific mission in their lives, so too is every individual that we come in contact with.

The question is in essence “why” am I hear. Once we can identify the why, we can then build a plan that will allow us to put it into action. To create the physical change in the real world that is a reflection of our purpose. That is in essence the “success” we are supposed to achieve.

Now let me be clear. When I say that that is the success we are “supposed” to achieve, it is up to each individual to decide, to dictate what we are supposed to do. No one else can nor should decide what is right for us. As will be discussed later successful people choose their own life.

So how do we decide what our life purpose is? How do we decide what our own individual “why” is? I think it is our own personal or inner guidance system. An airline pilot or rather an automated self pilot on a transatlantic flight constantly monitors its course. Though the plane is traveling thousands of miles it is never exactly on course. As a passenger, and if you are pilot, you will notice that the plane is always making adjustments on its path to its destination.

So too in life. We set our goals, we find our reason, and we launch into life on a trajectory toward success. But along the way we are given guidance. That guidance comes by way of many indicators. We get feedback from those around us. We get reminded that we might be slightly off course by failures or limited successes along the way. Add to these our own internal gut feel, along with logic and common sense, that allow us to correct, and we have a complete guidance system. All these indicators, or rather feedback mechanisms also help us determine our purpose.

There is one other aspect needs to be taken in to account in our search for our own purpose.

It is quite helpful to think of not only the “corrections” on our path to success but perhaps more importantly the joys that we have experienced since childhood. If we put together a list of all the things that are or that have been joyful to us and combine those with a list of our strengths we can begin to identify what our purpose, our mission is.

What would you do if you weren’t afraid?

I heard a speech given by a friend recently who talked about his tour at the offices Facebook in California. He described how everywhere you turned there were posters and banners that asked this one simple question. “What would you do if you were not afraid?”

That really seems to be the gist of it all. Imagine pursuing your dreams with no fear. No fear of failure. No fear of success. No fear of what people might say. The list seems endless. Imagine for a moment that you can do anything you want with no real negative ramifications should you fail.

Imagine being able to have it all!

I know that when I remove fear completely from my mind I can, at least in my imagination, truly accomplish great things. But yet the fear really is there. The thing that I do know however is that whenever I take action. Whenever I use action to cure fear I always move forward until I may not always succeed the fear always goes away.

But when I do succeed I know that I would not have reached that success without having had to overcome certain elements and certain levels of fear.

So imagine what’s possible. Overcome your fears in order to achieve your goals. But in order to set your goals take fear of the picture so that you can get a clear picture of what your true goals really are. The of course, pursue them!

The Motivators – Pain (Part 2 of 7)

Pain. It’s really a matter of choosing which pain you prefer. The pain you are experiencing in your current situation versus the pain of change. Usually people stay in the same situation because in their minds it is more painful to go through change than it is to endure the pain of sour relationships, weak or even worse, negative finances, and poor health. Choose your pain point and see what’s more important to you. A better life which sometimes (usually…) requires  painful change, or being easy on yourself today because that is less painful. As they say, be easy on yourself and have a hard life or be hard on yourself and have an easy life.

Once you understand that the temporary pain of change is worth “suffering” as compared to the chronic pain of a bad situation you have in your hands a great motivator to make progress towards success.

Use Feedback to Your Advantage

Many times there are those that are “kind enough” to give us feedback. Unfortunately that feedback sometimes comes not from a constructive place but rather from a place of jealousy or even worse I need to put you down so that the provider of the feedback to put themselves up there.

And many times, or perhaps less times if you will, the feedback that is given to us is sincere. It comes from a place of really wanting to help you. Whatever the case may be and whatever the motivations are of the person giving the feedback you can learn from both. Whenever someone is speaking with you, and it does not even have to be within the framework of feedback, pay close attention. There’s always something to learn. When somebody gives advice pay close attention.

It is not always easy to do but try and keep your mind on two things when someone is speaking with you. On the one hand and he can only do one do this one, they close attention to what they’re saying so that you can respond appropriately. And of course you need to be really listening, and not just preparing what you have to say in the time that the person in front of you speaking. Truly listen to understand, to share, to be with the person that is expressing themselves to you, perhaps even better said, with you.

If however you can think about two things while the person is speaking with you then please by all means do this. The second thing to think about is how you can learn from your own personal growth from what is being said to you at that moment. And all this is within the framework of the discussion. It is not necessarily a conversation in which you are being provided feedback.

A third area that warrants very sharp, very attentive focus, is that of receiving feedback. Whether the person delivering the feedback is doing so from a positive and healthy place or from negative and destructive place listen to feedback. There is a message in there for you take that message in whatever form it comes to improve yourself and improve your outcomes.

Sometimes the feedback will be painful to hear that perhaps that is even better. It means that the words being spoken to are actually right on target.
