AgenciesHezbollah in Lebanon announced today, Tuesday, the election of Naim Qassem as the party’s secretary-general, succeeding Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli strike on September 27.
Hezbollah issued a statement saying, "Based on faith in God Almighty, commitment to authentic Muhammadan Islam, adherence to Hezbollah’s principles and goals, and in accordance with the approved mechanism for electing the secretary-general, Hezbollah’s Shura Council agreed to elect Sheikh Naim Qassem as the secretary-general of Hezbollah, carrying the blessed banner in this journey, asking God Almighty to guide him in this noble mission in leading Hezbollah and its Islamic resistance."
Qassem pointed out that Lebanon is part of the expansionist project of the occupying state, according to the Lebanese National News Agency.
He stressed that Lebanon cannot be separated from Palestine, and that the Palestinians have the right to carry out an action that expels the occupation, shakes its presence, and prevents it from continuing.
Naim Qassem added, saying that we fight with honor, while they target civilians, children, women, and hospitals because the Israeli project is destructive and abolishing.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin discussed Israeli operations and regional de-escalation opportunities with his Israeli counterpart Yoav Galant in a phone call on Monday.

The call comes as Israel intensifies its strikes on southern Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.

Of the 251 people kidnapped during the offensive, 97 are still being held in Gaza, including 34 who the military says have been killed.
