Designed by a consortium comprising technologists Helen Thompson and John Winslow, SeniorsTechConnect aims to empower the elderly by bridging the digital divide. Through one-on-one coaching and comprehensive tutorials, the project addresses the technological challenges seniors often face. It's not just about teaching them to operate devices but also ensuring they're safe in the online environment. Absolute beginners are introduced to computers, the internet, and essential software, while advanced sessions are for those keen to explore domains like social media, e-commerce, and digital banking.
The project has a strong community thread, fostering interaction and exchange of ideas among seniors. By giving them the ability to connect and communicate digitally, SeniorsTechConnect endeavors to mitigate feelings of isolation, especially important amid the pandemic. Special sessions on video calling applications and messaging services are held, enabling them to stay in touch with their loved ones.
